Barbie is back, and we are beyond stoked! Besides the connection to fond childhood memories of playing dress-up (our favorite True Fashionista activity) and the enduring doll herself, the Barbiecore trend is also centered around our #1 shade, pink! It's rolling through our lives in interior design and fashion, so we're taking a look at a few of the many ways we can think positively pink before being swallowed up by orange and brown, then red and green. Yes, we said that. Getting back to the matter at hand, all of the above shades, especially pink, can be found in abundance at Florida's largest lifestyle consignment store, True Fashionistas!
"A much-welcomed mood-booster after the last few years, 'Barbiecore' is all about embracing vibrant hues — particularly the doll's signature hot pink — in everyday life," Etsy trend expert Dayna Isom Johnson shared recently with Good Morning America.
EXPLORING THE BARBIECORE TREND – A VALENTINO PARTY
It all started with the 2022 Fall Valentino show in March when Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli debuted a stunning line of pink wear. Dubbed Valentino Pink PP, it took off from there as the exciting hue began showing up on red carpets and festival stages everywhere.
Drew Barrymore wore a custom pink Valentino gown to the 2022 Daytime Emmys, while Lana Condor (To All the Boys) donned a Valentino three-piece ensemble complete with Valentino Tango shoes for an utterly monochromatic look at the 2022 MTV Movie and TV Awards. Pop sensation Saweetie stepped out for the 2022 Grammy Awards in a gorgeous Valentino Pink PP two-piece with matching pink gloves. Winter Soldier Sebastian Stan rocked the Gala in a pink wool boucle jacket, chiffon shirt, and loose wool trousers, finishing the look with Valentino One Stud sneakers. Not to be outdone, Hollywood icon Glenn Close walked the 2022 Met Gala red carpet alongside Piccioli, dressed in a cape, silk georgette shirt, matching pants, and gloves, carrying a Valentino Garavani One Stud clutch. BTW, must-have pink purses and more authentic designer handbags on consignment can be scored at True Fashionistas.
EXPLORING THE BARBIECORE TREND – YES, THERE'S A MOVIE
It's a real True Fashionista moment when a fashion trend has a movie attached. The Greta-Gurwig helmed flick stars Margot Robbie in a role she was seemingly born to portray, and Ryan Gosling as her erstwhile beau Ken. Barbie has a strong buzz ahead of its summer 2023 release. The strong cast also includes Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, and Michael Cera.
Movie Insider.com shares plot deets, "A Barbie doll living in Barbieland is expelled from the world for not being perfect enough, too eccentric, and not fitting the usual mold. She goes on an adventure in the real world, and by the time she returns to Barbieland to save it, she has realized that perfection comes on the inside, not the outside and that the key to happiness is belief in oneself."
Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz has said that the film is shaping up to be something that "would become a societal moment," and Gosling has called the script the "best" he's ever read.
Most importantly, pics from the set show its stars clad in dazzlingly bright colors head to toe, with distinctly pink hues as an evident mainstay. In happy bright colors, clothing, accessories, and home décor can be spotted throughout True Fashionistas, Naples' best consignment store.
EXPLORING THE BARBIECORE TREND – THE CLOTHING AND THE COLORS
Hot pink aside, capturing the essence of Barbiecore calls for items like mini latex dresses, dainty fit-and-flares, dressed up with details like feathers and endless sparkles, the Barbie staple. From ultra-high pumps to jelly block heels, shoes vary just like the toy's endless options. Furthermore, holographic and fluorescent accessories and plastic hair clips make for perfect True Fashionista additions. And yes, the more hot pink, the better. Additional shades such as bubblegum and fuchsia also personify the Barbiecore vibe.
EXPLORING THE BARBIECORE TREND – KNOCKING THE STEREOTYPES
Although the traditional Barbie doll may have had a size 0 body for years, recent inclusion efforts have resulted in 176 male and female dolls with nine different body types, 35 skin tones, and 94 hairstyles, says People. In 2022 alone, Mattel further diversified the lineup, adding a doll with behind-the-ear hearing aids, a doll with a prosthetic leg, and a Ken doll with vitiligo, the skin condition that causes miscolored patches to appear.
EXPLORING THE BARBIECORE TREND – CELEBS LOVE THE LOOK TOO
Maybe because Barbiecore invokes a timeless feeling of positivity or just the True Fashionista feeling of bright pink fun, celebrities have been embracing the trend for a while now. Rapper Nicki Minaj, a longtime fan, even calls her fanclub "Barbz." Lizzo joined Harry Styles onstage at Coachella 2022. Both were outfitted in matching pink outfits featuring feathered jackets. Khloé Kardashian showed off her Barbiecore pink latex dress at her birthday party, and Barbie star Robbie celebrated her birthday in July on set with a giant pink Barbie birthday cake!
