Did someone say tax-free shopping? Like magic, we start to drool just a little bit, and our hearts race as we sprint to True Fashionistas, the best designer consignment store, to score some deals for the young ones and a few for ourselves too. A sale’s a sale; just give us a reason!

Back to school shopping has been the incentive to waive the sales tax since New York state held the first sales tax holiday in January 1997, Wikipedia reports. Local NY governments could choose whether or not to participate, and surprisingly, most didn’t. My, how times change.

BACK TO SCHOOL TAX-FREE SHOPPING PARTY – WHO’S HAVING IT?

These days, 16 states, including our True Fashionista home state of Florida, offer tax-free shopping at least once a year, typically just before the start of the new school year. Thanks to a new law enacted this year, Florida now has three sales tax holiday seasons: late May/early June to stock up on hurricane supplies; a brand new Freedom Week in early July to save on things like camping gear, outdoor supplies, concert tickets, plays, annual museum memberships and more; and the Back to School holiday, conveniently extended to an entire week, Saturday, July 31st  - Monday, August 9th, 2021. Thanks, Guv!
