Here in our tropical home base of Naples, Florida, summer is already here and happening. Whether you’re creeping out into the world little by little or still staying put, it helps to be on top of what’s hot for any upcoming True Fashionista hangs by the water, be it with the fam or an in-person reunion with peeps you’ve only seen on a screen over the past couple of months.

SWIMSUITS

You knew this one was coming for 2020: the trikini! Leave it to Italian designer Elexia Beachwear to come up with a beautiful bikini look complete with, yes, a waterproof face mask. As reported recently by Today, Elexia owner Tiziana Scaramuzzo told Italian news site Centropagina that the idea for her pandemic-safe swimwear “was born joking with the family.” She shares that the brainstorm came about when taking photos with her children, and she had no idea it would be so successful.

While tie-dye is a hot print this year, tangerine orange is this summer’s hottest color, as the spring/summer runways indicated with numbers by Bottega Veneta, Valentino, and Emilia Wickstead. Call us crazy, but you may be tempted to actually recline on a floating lounger in one of these numbers!

Be seen this year in, yes, a one-piece. You’ll go Baywatch and beyond in one of these True Fashionista swimsuits featuring accoutrements like plunging necklines, swooping backs and intricate strap details.  The maillot has come roaring back for 2020 and everyone from Oséree to Versace has crafted an elegant piece to show off your best points. Tripsavvy runs ‘em down from best overall (Andie the Mykonos with secure straps that won’t slide down) to Best Strapless (Solid & Striped The Paula with adjustable bows).

Also on the radar: Even though a Jimmy Buffet concert is a non-issue this summer, True Fashionista parrotheads can rejoice in the strapless parrot swimsuit from Cult Gaia x Adriana Degreas. Match ‘em with a light maxi skirt or high-rise jean, suggests Marina Liao and Sara Holzman for Marie Claire. Zimmermann offers up a lovely floral print complete with bows at the shoulders. Pair it with a short ruffle skirt for a lovely beachside brunch. And what proper one-piece rundown would be complete without a one-shoulder mention? Marysia goes all 2020 with their version of the classic black single strap look.

The two-piece selection for summer ‘20 has never been better, be it classic bikini, boy short combo or tankini sets. Some, like Reformation’s Brisbane set, feature long sleeves and an exciting print with high-waisted bottom. Speaking of prints, tropical prints are all the rage this year. Designers like Fendi, Peter Pilotto, and Marni all ushered in strong jungle prints with blooms and vivid colors, shares  WhoWhatWear.  Wraparound tops are a big deal as well, featuring long straps that wrap around the torso, easily transitioning the top to pair well with a skirt. Just imagine the tan lines!

Many of this year’s suits come complete with ornate embellishments intended for all-day wear. Accessorize with oversize sunglasses and layered jewelry for your next pool party.

COVERUPS

This summer’s coverups are a range of styles, from sundresses, gauzy tops and palazzo pants to all kinds of crocheted beauties. Farm Rio offers up a lovely floral printed wraparound skirt, shares Glamour. Rhode presents a varied collection of mini sundresses with relaxed fit. Your coverup of choice can also be a simple shirtdress, like the one offered by Madewell. Seafolly’s striped cropped pants are a fun alternative. Then there is Free People’s Walking On a Dream slip, which besides being a True Fashionista summer look, is worth the buy for the name alone, yes? Summersalt makes the decision easy with their The Beach to Brunch wrap skirt. Simple yet elegant, the Onia Elise dress easily transitions you from the beach to the patio.

FOOTWEAR

Pool sliders continue trending along with designer flip flops as True Fashionista shoes to wear around water this summer. Dolce and Gabbana offer up Beachwear Sliders in rose print. Wear ‘em with lightweight dresses and sunglasses for the perfect casual summer look. Beek Finch presents a simple look featuring asymmetrical strap and toe ring complete with good arch support for all-day comfort. Find ‘em in an array of colors.

Gotta hand it to celebrity representation. When Kim Kardashian West shows up in Christian Dior high-heeled flip flops, the world notices. Bryan Shearling-trimmed flip flops are a hot item this year as well. Balenciaga’s logo-print leather sandals will also be making the poolside rounds this summer, Elle reports.
