MUST-HAVE SUMMER PRINTS FOR FASHION SUCCESS

There’s a growing chance that we’ll be seen out and about much more this summer than last. Breathing a collective sigh of relief, the designer community embraced the feeling in their True Fashionista seasonal creations viewed in limited-seating and virtual runway shows back in December. We’re ready to live the result now, quite possibly without a mask to match (yay).

Many of the bigger trends are leaning toward the well-deserved carefree attitude of summer prints from florals to stripes, animal prints to tie-dye. We’ve got a solid list here to start your adventure, then head on over to True Fashionistas, Naples’ best consignment store, to nail your finds.

SUMMER PRINTS - FLORALS

Nothing says happy like True Fashionista florals. They’re one of those patterns that never quite go out of style, but floral trends do vary from year to year. This summer, you should look for delicate florals, with smaller floral patterns featuring romantic color palettes. These retro bloom florals are reminiscent of the flower children of the 1970s as well as reflecting the femininity of the 1990s, and both decades remain very much in for 2021.

Yves Saint Laurent designer Anthony Vaccarello made a splash (Huge pun; their livestreamed runway show in December was staged in a desert!) by delving into the YSL archives for a fresh update of 60’s Valley of the Dolls-esque florals in mini-dresses and capri-length pants, among others. Florals also show up this summer amid a return of frills and ruffles to boot. Zimmermann and Dolce & Gabbana’s lines are chock full of ‘em, so stock up now for fun times ahead.

SUMMER PRINTS – MEDIEVAL PATTERNS AND ASTROLOGICAL WONDERS

Dior’s True Fashionista summer couture collection takes inspiration from ancient times and, more specifically, a favorite Dior theme: prophecy. Resident Dior Haute Couture designer Maria Grazia Chiuri put tarot symbols and zodiac signs on extravagant gold dresses, modern pantsuits, bar jackets and capes to make a bold summer statement. Look for your dream Dior pieces at True Fashionistas, the best designer consignment store in Naples.

Dior’s batik style waxed prints will continue to shine as the interest in traditional handcraft and artisan looks grows. Bi-colors and small-scale batiks indicate the broadest appeal for success.

SUMMER PRINTS – LILLY PULITZER STYLE

We cannot in good conscience discuss summer prints without a nod to Florida’s first lady of True Fashionista style, Ms. Lilly Pulitzer. Her instantly recognizable bold use of bright colors and fruit-inspired patterns materialize in a big way for summer 2021. The Jessalynne Wrap romper and Karlie Wrap Romper, both featuring three quarter-length sleeves, will make a comfortable, stylish statement at your next poolside soirée.

The Donna Square Neck Romper offers Lilly love in a sleeveless version. If you feel the urge to bring Lilly along into the pool, discover several styles of one-and two-piece bathing suits and coverups. And don’t forget your Lilly tote! Find a wide selection of Lilly Pulitzer clothes and goods at True Fashionistas consignment store, Naples.

SUMMER PRINTS - GEOMETRICS

Another element of the 1970s that is all the rage for 2021 is liberal use of busy geometric patterns. Think: squares within squares, bisected circles, twisting lines and various other shapes that combine to make intricate and visually striking patterns. Yep, it’s vintage ‘70s, and we are perfectly OK with that. Tones of mustard, orange, cream, brown and gold fill the general palette, but if you can find them in other color ensembles that better suit your aesthetic, go for it.

Many of these abstract patterns will include the use of polka dots. Michael Kors was all over it last year, but who saw it, righhhht? We’ll just keep the hype this year on this happenin’ True Fashionista trend. Referred to as New Polka, designers such as Prada are mixing it up with large scale and layered print for newness.

SUMMER PRINTS – TIE DYE

While we were basically living in our loungewear last year, you may have gravitated toward your tie-dyes in a big way. Well this year, True Fashionista tie-dye returns with a fresh update. Whether you make the switch from rainbow tie-dye to more muted tones or opt for a dappled pattern in place of traditional swirls, new-season takes on tie-dye run the gamut, with fresh versions for every taste.

Break up the head to toe fit by incorporating some more casual pieces to downplay the bold pattern. Accessorize big in order to freshen it up, adding jewelry or sleek footwear to take your tie-dye to the street, park or beach.

Don’t miss Versace’s tie dyed jeans or Clare V. Ruffle’s tie-dye sweatshirt.  Although socks are pretty much off the summer radar, at least here in southwest Florida, Bombas offers a fine line of tie dye versions to wear with sandals. Yes we said that. Your tie-dye awaits at True Fashionistas, Naples’ best consignment store.
