HISTORY OF GLORIA VANDERBILT
The great-great-great-granddaughter of shipping and railroad magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt, “Little” Gloria Laura Vanderbilt was born into a life of wealth, fame and privilege on February 20, 1924. Her mother’s family were diplomats and judges. Her father Reginald Vanderbilt was heir to the fortune and a horse-breeder, playboy and alcoholic gambler who died when she was just 17 months old. She married four times, having two sons with her second husband, conductor Leopold Stokowski, and two more with the last, Mississippi writer Wyatt Cooper. CNN anchor Anderson Cooper is the younger of the second two, his brother Carter tragically committing suicide in 1988 at age 23 before his horrified mother’s eyes.

MET GALA 2019 – CAMP LIVES!
It was another banner year for the Met Gala, fashion and fundraising’s True Fashionista hour. The theme, “Camp: Notes on Fashion” was on display in full force. Quick review of the meaning, which in case you’re even questioning, is not a summer flashback to canoeing on a lake and popsicle stick arts ‘n crafts projects: Camp in this context refers to a term coined in a groundbreaking 1964 Susan Sontag essay, “Notes on Camp”, where she argued how the love of the unnatural, displayed via artifice and exaggeration, can be summed up in that one word.

Throughout history, fashion has reflected art, and since art is a True Fashionista creation from the imagination; so then comes fashion as “wearable art”. It’s as if someone had an idea so outlandish that it should have just stayed in their head, but instead of moving on to the next awesome idea, they just well, went with it.

Let’s just clear something up first and foremost. It’s pronounced FUNG SHWAY. Next order of True Fashionista business… literally translated, feng means “wind” and shui means “water”, and in Chinese culture, wind and water are associated with good health. Therefore, since its introduction in China some 3,000 years ago, feng shui has evolved over the years into meaning the art and science of fortune; good feng shui is good fortune and vice versa.
