FASHION WEEK REIMAGINED

Here we are over six months into a pandemic, but the world must go on. The fashion world, like everyone else, knows full well that now more than ever the masses need, crave actually, fresh designs and the runways with which to introduce them, even if it’s mostly the live streaming version. Who better than True Fashionista creative design types to come up with a way for Fashion Month to still somehow happen? All that quarantined creative spark has had to go somewhere, and from what we’ve heard and seen from the initial party, aka New York Fashion Week, the new fashion normal did not disappoint.
MISSING THE FIRST MONDAY IN MAY

MISSING THE FIRST MONDAY IN MAY

It doesn’t get more depressing than this: Like everything else this crazy year, the 2020 Met Gala was canceled, or as they say, “postponed indefinitely”. The classic flurry of fashion, photographers and A-listers dressed to the True Fashionista nines was a non-entity, as the iconic First Monday in May came and went with eerie silence at New York’s currently shuttered Metropolitan Museum of Art.

LEATHER IS FOREVER

When we conjure up early memories of leather in your wardrobe, maybe it’s the bomber jackets worn by WWII fighter pilots, or that cool black one with the all those zippers your True Fashionista punk rocker cousin had.  Leather has had its place in fashion since our forefathers figured that there are uses for the whole animal. Ancient wall paintings and artifacts dating back to 5000 B.C. indicate the use of leather for clothing purposes, and ancient Greeks developed tanning formulas to preserve their leather. Then the Romans discovered that leather makes for really fantastic, durable footwear.

THE CURRENT STATE OF THE BLAZER

Your first thought about the blazer is no doubt the stuffy power suit staple, seen in boardrooms round the globe and in like, every job interview ever. Good news, blazer fans, this essential True Fashionista wardrobe piece has been trending back into style lately, making an appearance in many a spring 2020 collection. The blazer’s recent renaissance is proving that you can rock a well-tailored jacket not just at the watercooler, but out on the town, with pants, skirt or just about anything.

SWEATERS AND HOW TO WEAR ‘EM

SWEATERS AND HOW TO WEAR ‘EM

Whether you live in our home base of southwest Florida or the more temperate environs up north, there’s always a need for a sweater or two… or 10. As the situation warrants each season, some updating to the collection is in order, but a few of the favorites always seem to stand out for optimum True Fashionista snuggly warmth and fashion. They’re like an old friend you’re happy to see after so long.

STREETWEAR FASHION

STREETWEAR FASHION

It’s always fascinating when high fashion draws from the raw looks of places unexpected to create the next True Fashionista trend for the runways and beyond. Last fall, designers tapped into what was happening at street level and brought it to the runways, so that we may enjoy these somewhat casual looks during the carefree days of summer. Streetwear has been a boys’ game for years now, what with athletic wear, designer sneakers and hoodies of all colors, but this year women get theirs. The streets just got much hipper, people!

SWIMSUIT TRENDS FOR SUMMER 2019

Summer is, like, here. You can keep thinking May flowers and graduations, but the heat index is up and that means soon enough there will be much more time spent outdoors by water. In Florida, where summer’s been here for the past month and a half, we focus a whole bunch on swimwear. The rest of the northern hemisphere finally gets to hit the beach and be seen in your True Fashionista seasonal wear. If you’re just digging out the carefully stored attire from last year, it’s a good idea to find out what’s out there this year, and catch up with what’s hot in 2019 besides your car.
